Google Can Now Call Your Barbershop for Prices and Openings. Here Is How to Be Ready
Key takeaways
- Google's AI Mode lists finding local appointments such as haircuts as a supported task, and Google may call businesses when details are not online.
- Google may book through a connected booking partner or by calling your shop directly.
- Booksy, Fresha and Vagaro were named as AI Mode appointment partners in November 2025.
- Your Business Profile has an Advanced setting that controls Google's automated calls; leave bookings and inquiries on unless you have a reason not to.
What changed: Google is doing the shopping for your clients
Google's Search help page for AI Mode now describes a feature for checking local availability and pricing. A signed-in adult can ask for something like a haircut appointment, and AI Mode gathers details from the web, fills in forms or calls businesses directly when the information is not available online. Web results take a few minutes; call results can take up to 30 minutes, and the person can get an email when they are ready.
Google's Business Profile help page explains the other side. When a client asks Google to book, Google calls your business to book the appointment, and if you work with an online booking provider, Google may book through that partner instead. Google says these calls are monitored and recorded, limited for repeat requests and avoid late night and early morning hours. In the US the call feature is listed for all states except Indiana, Louisiana, Minnesota, Montana and Nebraska.
At Google I/O in May 2026, Google said it would expand agentic booking to more local services, naming categories such as beauty. Booking through platforms started earlier: in November 2025 Google said AI Mode could find beauty and wellness appointments through Booksy, Fresha and Vagaro, and Booksy said those bookings land directly in the provider's calendar.
What it means for a barbershop
For years the job was to win the click from a search result. Now part of the deciding happens before anyone visits your site. Google reads your Business Profile, your booking platform's availability and, if it has to, the answer your front desk gives on the phone. Shops with clear prices, open slots Google can read and a phone that gets answered make the shortlist. Shops with no prices listed and a voicemail box that is full get skipped.
This also means a call from Google asking about a fade price is a client, not a telemarketer. Brief your barbers and front desk so they answer politely and give a straight answer.
One caution from Google itself: AI responses may include mistakes. That is another reason to keep your prices, services and hours accurate everywhere, so the answer Google assembles is right.

Missed calls cost more now
Most barbers cannot pick up the phone mid-cut. Booking apps are starting to fill that gap. Booksy's AI Receptionist is in beta for current Booksy providers: it answers calls in English or Spanish, recognizes returning clients by number and books onto your Booksy calendar. Booksy's FAQ says appointments with No-Show Protection, such as ones needing a deposit, are not supported in this first version, and it flags anything it cannot handle for a callback.
Whatever tool you use, the goal is the same: a caller, human or Google, should get an answer during business hours. If your shop runs on a different platform, ask your provider what it offers for missed calls and whether Google can see your live availability.
What to do this week
None of this requires new software if you already use a modern booking app. It requires making the information Google reads accurate and complete. Work through the list below, then check your profile in Google Search to see what a client sees.
If your shop takes walk-ins only, say so clearly on your profile and your site, and list your price range, so AI Mode can still describe you correctly. Our online scheduling management service covers booking setup and connection to Google if you want a hand.
Seven steps to get ready for AI Mode
Start at the top. The first three matter most.
- List every service with a price. Add cuts, fades, beard work and kids cuts with prices or ranges on your Business Profile and booking app.
- Match names and addresses exactly. Make your shop name and address identical on Google, your booking platform and your website.
- Connect your booking app to Google. Ask your provider, in writing, whether Google can read your live availability and complete a booking.
- Check the automated calls setting. In your profile, go to Business Profile settings, then Advanced settings, and review Bookings and inquiries from customers.
- Answer or route every call. Use call forwarding or your app's answering tool so callers are not sent to a full voicemail.
- Brief your team. Tell barbers and the front desk that a polite automated call asking about prices is a potential client.
- Publish plain-text prices and hours on your site. Write them as readable text rather than inside images, so any search tool can pick them up.
Frequently asked questions
Can I stop Google from calling my barbershop?
Yes. Google says you can say "Please stop calling my business" during a call or turn the features off under Advanced settings in your verified Business Profile. Most shops should leave bookings and inquiries on.
Does Google charge for these bookings?
Google says businesses and customers can use the automated call feature at no charge. Booksy said its Google AI Mode bookings carry no extra fee or commission. Check your own platform's terms.
My booking app is not Booksy, Fresha or Vagaro. Am I left out?
Not necessarily. Google may call your shop directly, and other platforms connect to Google in different ways. Ask your provider what it supports today.
Is this available everywhere?
No. Google lists it as available in select regions and languages; the help pages above give the current details.
