Barbershop Holiday Marketing Plan 2026: Thanksgiving to New Year's, Week by Week
Key takeaways
- Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026, and Christmas falls on a Friday this year.
- Set Google special hours for every holiday, even when your hours do not change.
- Use only your profile's verified phone number in Google posts, since posts with unverified contact info may be removed.
- Plan a January rebooking push before the holidays end, while clients are still in your chair.
The 2026 holiday calendar for barbershops
Start with the dates. Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, with Black Friday on November 27. Christmas Eve is Thursday, December 24, and Christmas Day is Friday, December 25. New Year's Eve is Thursday, December 31, and New Year's Day is Friday, January 1, 2027. With Christmas and New Year's both on Fridays, many clients will get long weekends, and the days just before each one tend to be the ones they ask about first.
Decide your hours for each of those days now and write them down. Extra early or late chairs, a short day on Christmas Eve, closed on the holidays themselves: whatever you choose, the point is to decide before clients start asking.
Late October: set it up once
Google lets you schedule special hours for holidays without changing your regular hours. Google's help page says you can set special hours for closures of up to 6 days in a row, and recommends confirming your hours for official holidays even when they are the same as usual, so clients know the listing is accurate. Your business hours must be set to Open with main hours for special hours to show.
This matters more this year because Google AI Mode can now check local availability and call businesses when details are not online. Accurate hours on your profile and real open slots in your booking app mean fewer missed chances.
Then open your booking calendar far enough ahead that clients can book Thanksgiving week and the week before Christmas now. If you add extra hours, add them to the booking app the same day you add them to Google.

November: tell clients and fill the chairs
Post a Google Business Profile update announcing holiday hours and how to book. Google's posts policy now says posts with unverified contact information may be removed, so use the Book or Call button rather than typing a personal number or a barber's handle into the text.
Send your client list a short text or email with the holiday hours and a booking link. Feature your barbers' open slots on Instagram Stories with your location tagged. If you sell gift cards or product bundles, November is the time to put them at the register and on your site. If you would rather hand the campaign off, our advertising and promotion service covers holiday offers, posts and ads for barbershops.
Protect the busy days. Holiday weeks are when a no-show hurts most, so confirm your deposit or cancellation policy is switched on in your booking app and stated clearly at booking. If you use an automated phone answering tool, check how it handles those appointments: Booksy, for example, says its AI Receptionist beta does not yet book appointments that use No-Show Protection.
December and early January: keep it running
Run a waitlist for the week before Christmas so a cancellation becomes someone else's booking. Update your Google special hours if anything changes, and reply to the reviews that come in during the rush, since recent reviews are what most new clients see first.
Keep your social posts simple during the rush: a photo of a fresh cut, the barber's name, the day's open slots and a booking link. Tag your location on every post so nearby people who browse that place can find you. Short, regular updates beat one big campaign that nobody sees in time.
The first weeks of January are often quieter for shops. Before clients leave your chair in December, offer to book their next cut. A rebooking reminder in the first week of January with a direct link gets the year started with a fuller book.
Holiday checklist, in order
Work through these between now and mid-November.
- Decide holiday hours. Pick hours for Nov 26 and 27, Dec 24, 25 and 31, and Jan 1.
- Set Google special hours. Add every holiday date in your Business Profile, even if hours are unchanged.
- Open the booking calendar. Make holiday weeks bookable now and add any extra chairs to your app.
- Post a holiday update on Google. Use the Book or Call button instead of typed numbers or handles.
- Message your client list. Send holiday hours and a booking link by text or email.
- Turn on deposits or cancellation rules. Protect peak days and state the policy clearly at booking.
- Start a waitlist. Fill late cancellations during the week before Christmas.
- Book January before they leave. Offer the next appointment at checkout through December.
Where we can help
Frequently asked questions
Should I set special hours if my hours are not changing?
Yes. Google recommends confirming hours for official holidays even when they stay the same, so clients can trust the listing.
What if we close for a full week over the holidays?
Google's special hours cover closures of up to 6 days in a row. For 7 or more days, Google says to mark the business as Temporarily closed.
Can I put my cell number in a holiday post?
It is safer not to. Google's posts policy says posts with unverified contact information may be removed. Use the verified profile number through the Call button.
When should holiday posts go live?
Early November gives clients time to plan around Thanksgiving week. Update them again in early December for Christmas and New Year's.
